Eriksson Will Not Be Portsmouth Manager

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

UPDATE: According to Chris Burton at Sky Sports, Sven Goran Eriksson will not be manager at Portsmouth. Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie told The News,

“It’s a complete nonsense … No discussions have gone on about a new manager coming in whatsoever. Everything is staying as it is.”

“The football manager remains the same and we move forward until such time as the new owner comes in. At that stage decisions will be made at all levels of the business.”

May 29th, 2009 According to James Dall at Sky Sports, Sven Goran Eriksson is interested in coaching Portsmouth. His agent Athole Still said,

“It [Portsmouth] is a club with money and a club that looks like it will have ambition, which is very important to any top manager”

“Of course it would be a club that interests him … Sven was interested before when Portsmouth were looking for a replacement for Tony Adams.”

“All that I would say at the moment is he has an interest in coming back to the Premier League, and has an interest in being involved with any club that has genuine ambitions.”

“He wants to be back in the game within weeks rather than months, and has offers on the table at home and abroad … At this moment in time, there has been no official approach from Portsmouth, though.”

May 28th, 2009 According to Sky Sports, Portsmouth’s new owner Sulaiman Al-Fahim is interested in going after manager Sven Goran Eriksson. Eriksson is currently out of work after losing his coaching position with Mexico.
