Kanu Close To New Deal With Portsmouth

According to Neil Allen at The News, Portsmouth striker Kanu will sign a new deal with the club. Kanu’s legal representative Samuel Okoronkwo said,

“I fully expect Kanu to be playing at Portsmouth next season … I can confirm that we are currently in negotiations with Peter Storrie and are making good progress. I am hoping at the close of play he will be here.”

‘There was interest from elsewhere, although I am not at liberty to name them … But Portsmouth holds his interest and he is willing to show his loyalty to the club and stay longer. This is where he wants to be.”

UPDATE: According to Lucas Brown at Sky Sports News, Sport is reporting that Aston Villa, Fulham, and Everton are all interested in Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen. His father Arnor was quoted as saying,

“I think that Eidur will leave Barcelona, but I am not sure where he will end up playing next …  There are many possibilities open to him and apart from Aston Villa, Fulham and Everton, there are also clubs in other European countries that want him.”

June 24th, 2009 According to Burnley’s official website, Burnley’s bid for Derby County defender Tyrone Mears was accepted. Burnley manager Owen Coyle said,

“The two clubs have agreed a fee and talks with a view to making the transfer permanent will take place when the player and his representative return from holiday.”

According to Ashley Gray at the Daily Mail, Chelsea officials are in Moscow to try and complete a deal for CSKA Moscow footballer Yuri Zhirkov. It is being reported that the fee will be around £18million and Chelsea will offer Zhirkov a three-year deal worth £80,000-a-week.

UPDATE: According to Football Spy at the Daily Mirror, West Ham United are interested in Hull City target Marc-Antoine Fortune. Fortune is expected to meet with West Ham to discuss their offer.

According to Sky Sports News, Hull City boss Phil Brown admitted that talks have not advanced in the last 48 hours with Marc-Antoine Fortune and that the club might have to move on. He said,

“It hasn’t moved forward in the last 48 hours … He has an offer from us and an offer from Celtic and someone has said something about West Ham.”

“That is news to us but if so, so be it. We are now in a three-horse race as opposed to a two-horse race … We are confident we are still in the pole position but these things are always a concern when they are not done and dusted.”

“If there is not a decision in the next 24 or 48 hours we are going to have to move on to other players.”

June 24th, 2009 According to Rob Stewart at Telegraph, Hull City are close to signing AS Nancy striker Marc-Antoine Fortune. Hull City boss Phil Brown said,

“We’ve spoken to the player, to his agent and to the president of Nancy and were very encouraged … Now we’re awaiting an answer from the player that we’re the favoured club ahead of Celtic.”

“We’re hopeful of getting something done, maybe that will happen this week … But there’s always that doubt in your mind that so long as he’s out there, someone can be interested in him. He did play well last season and endeared himself to the Premier League.”

“We’re awaiting a nod from him now and hopefully that will be some time this week.”
