Khizanishvili Unsure Of Blackburn Future

According to Andy Cryer at the Lancashire Telegraph, Zurab Khizanishvili is unsure about his future with Blackburn. He said,

“I still have a two-year contract with Blackburn, it is up to them really, so all I can do is look forward … I don’t know if I will still be here next season. All I can say is I have a contract so I am a Blackburn Rovers player.”

“I want to play here, but that is my opinion, I don’t know what the club are thinking so we will have to talk and see what happens from there.”

“I still like it at Blackburn. I am not unhappy, I just wish I was playing a bit more.”

Drogba Is Happy At Chelsea & Tired Of Rumors

According to Sky Sports News, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is happy at the club. He said,

“I’m a bit tired of speaking about my future because every time I stop people ask me about this. I have one more year here, I’m happy at Chelsea.”

“I’m not worried about my age or the decision of the club. I’m just worried about being happy in my life and at the moment I’m really happy where I am.”

“In football anything can happen and we all know that. At the moment this is where I want to be, I’ve said it before and I will always say that.”

Wigan Interested In Roberto Martinez?

According to Alan Nixon at the Daily Mirror, Wigan Athletic are interested in Swansea manager Roberto Martinez as a replacement for Steve Bruce if he leaves. Swansea are supposedly looking for a £750,000 compensation fee.

Peterborough’s Darren Ferguson and former manager Paul Jewell are also mentioned as possible replacements.

Burnley Offers Veteran New Deal, Cut Three Players

According to Sky Sports News, Burnley have offered a new one-year deal to 37-year-old Graham Alexander. Adam Kay and Alex McDonald were also offered new deals.

Steve Jones, Gabor Kiraly, and Alan Mahon were all released by the club.

Man City To Buy First Before Selling

According to Chris Bailey at the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City plan on buying first before they sell anybody. Man City boss Mark Hughes said,

“What we intend to do this summer is add real quality to the first team and some depth that will make the squad better as a whole. I certainly will not be letting players go until I am satisfied we have the right depth and the right quality.”

“We are looking to bring in quality at the top end. It is difficult to put a number on how many players might come in during the summer because we don’t know yet who exactly will be available and who we will be able to bring to the club but we are in the market for quality and I have every expectation that I will be brining good players to the club. We are looking to be positive in the market from the moment it opens.”

Kranjcar Staying With Portsmouth

According to Robin Hackett at Setanta Sports, Portsmouth midfielder Niko Kranjcar has no intentions of leaving the club. He told Sportske Novosti,

“I’m not going anywhere … They are always talking about me going, but why would I want to leave Portsmouth? We have a new owner.”

“My ambitions are greater than just Premier League survival, but I have another year on my contract … I want to spend that year just enjoying life and playing without injuries before going off to the World Cup.”

Sunderland Agree To Pay Compensation For Bruce

UPDATE: According to ESPN Soccernet, it looks as if Sunderland has agreed to pay the £3m compensation for Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce. The two clubs are now thought to be discussing the personal terms.

May 31st, 2009 According to ESPN Soccernet, Sunderland made an offer to coach Roberto Mancini. Mancini told Sky Italia,

“I am honoured to have had an offer from Sunderland Football Club. It is a fantastic opportunity … It will be truly wonderful to lead such a prestigious and historic club in England after a year of sitting on the sidelines.”

“I feel I am ready to start again with immense enthusiasm.”

According to BBC Sport, Wigan Athletic chairman David Whelan wants £3million for coach Steve Bruce. He said,

“I’ve asked for £3m in compensation, but I don’t want to lose Steve … Talks are in progression and I’ve asked for a compensation fee because I think it’s only fair that they buy out his contract.”

“I paid Birmingham £3m so I’m asking for the same amount back … There’s a lot of managers who you can get for free and it depends whether they feel they want to pay £3m.”

“But if they want a real quality manager, Steve is up there among the best.”

Tim Howard To Sign New Deal With Everton

According to Football Spy at the Daily Mirror, Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is set to sign a new five-year deal with the club within the next few days. The contract is said to be around £10million.

Ricardo Rocha Released By Tottenham

According to Tottenham’s official website, the club will not renew Ricardo Rocha’s contract which has basically ended. The site said,

“The Club would like to thank Ricardo Rocha for his contribution over the past two-and-a-half years following his departure at the conclusion of his contract.”

It’s Official: Ancelotti Is Chelsea’s New Manager

UPDATE: According to Chelsea’s official website, Carlo Ancelotti is the new manager of the club. He signed a three-year deal with the club that will start on July 1st.

May 31st, 2009 According to ESPN Soccernet, AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti has decided to leave the club, which pretty much means he will be joining Chelsea. AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said,

“Leonardo is our new coach and will be presented at the San Siro tomorrow at midday.”

Carlo Ancelotti told Sky Italia, “In agreement with the club we have decided to terminate the contract a year early … My wonderful experience with this side ends today. I thank all the players, directors, fans and everyone involved.”

Lavezzi States That He Wants To Stay At Napoli

UPDATE: According to Sky Sports News, Ezequiel Lavezzi would like to stay at Napoli despite interest from Liverpool. He said,

“Liverpool’s offer? I want to stay at Napoli … I hope everything will be made clear but it depends on the club not on me.”

“I reiterate that my wish is to remain at Napoli.”

May 30th, 2009 According to Robin Hackett at Setanta Sports, Ezequiel Lavezzi’s agent (Alejandro Mazzoni) stated that Napoli is looking to sell his client. Mazzoni told Radio Kiss Kiss,

“His stay depends entirely on Napoli, but I think that the club is now intending to sell him.”

“Napoli have not kept the promises they made to Lavezzi … I’m waiting for a call from [Napoli sporting director] Pierpaolo Marino about a meeting with the president, so it’s a bit difficult for us to know what Napoli want.”

“The last time I saw the director, I told him that there had been a bid from a foreign club for Lavezzi … The president, though, has not even responded.”

However, according to Salvatore Landolina at Goal.com, the Il Corriere Dello Sport is reporting that that Napoli are not interested in selling Lavezzi. Napoli sporting director Pierpaolo Marino said,

“I have never received offers from Liverpool, and we are not interested in receiving any.”

May 23rd, 2009 According to Salvatore Landolina at Goal.com, Ezequiel Lavezzi’s agent stated that Napoli did turn down a large offer for the striker. The agent told La Gazzetta Dello Sport,

“I can confirm that an important offer exceeding €20million was made, but De Laurentiis did not consider it sufficient.”

“Will he stay? That depends on Napoli. It’s like owning a car. If it’s just an average motor then you don’t have to spend much on maintenance.”

“But, if it’s a high spec type, then it will cost you more … Without going into too much detail, Lavezzi’s wages would be tripled.”

May 22nd, 2009 According to Vince Masiello at Goal.com, Napoli have rejected a €22 million bid by Liverpool for Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Lucas Neill Rejects New Deal, Still Hopeful However

According to Sky Sports News, West Ham United capitain Lucas Neill rejected a new deal but is still hopeful of signing a new one. His current contract with the club ends this month. Neill’s agent Darren Jackson said,

“The last offer was declined because Lucas didn’t feel it reflected his value as a player and captain.”

“Negotiations have been amicable and we hope we can still reach an agreement. The door remains open for West Ham and Lucas. Obviously the longer it goes on, the more likely it’s not going to happen.”
