Official: Sunderland Finally Sign Lee Cattermole

UPDATE: According to Sunderland’s official website, Sunderland have completed the signing of Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole. The fee is worth £6million and Cattermole signed a four-year deal with the club.

August 4th, 2009 According to Graeme Bailey at Sky Sports News, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is planning to make a third bid for Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole.

July 12th, 2009 According to ESPN Soccernet, Sunderland have increased their bid to £6million for Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole.

July 10th, 2009 According to ESPN Soccernet, Sunderland have made a bid for Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell and Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole.

However Sunderland’s bid, which was estimated around £7million, was rejected. Wigan boss Roberto Martinez said,

“Lee is not for sale. End of story … He is a fantastic player, a leader on and off the field, and is central to our plans going forwards. We are not interested in selling him, which was why this offer was rejected immediately.”
