Burnley Close To Deal With Newcastle For Summer Signing

According to Suzanne Geldard at the Lancashire Telegraph, Burnley and Newcastle are close to finally agreeing on a fee for David Edgar. Burnley signed Edgar as a free agent but due to his young age, were required to pay a fee to Newcastle, which the two clubs have been negotiating for months.

Sol Campbell Would Love To Play For United, But No Offer

According to ESPN Soccernet, defender Sol Campbell admitted that he would love to play for Manchester United but he has not heard anything official from them. Campbell said,

“I have heard nothing officially from Manchester United, but there have been suggestions and of course, it would be a great move for me, if it happens. I shall just have to wait and see if a call comes through the right channels.

“Of course I would love to play for Manchester United, but I am not counting any chickens, just waiting to see what happens. I am training as usual at Arsenal, and would go to train at Manchester United if I was asked.”

Birmingham Might Let Phillips & Carsley Leave

According to Sky Sports News, Birmingham boss Alex McLeish admitted that the club might let go of Kevin Phillips and Lee Carsley. McLeish told the Daily Mail,

“I would like Lee and Kevin Phillips to stay for the rest of the season … I understand that, if there’s something they feel strongly about that was better for them, I wouldn’t stand in their way.”

“They are reasonable people and phenomenal professionals. At the moment, I believe they want to stay.”

According to Salvatore Landolina at Goal.com, Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena is drawing interest from Roma. His agent Federico Pastorello told Radio Kiss Kiss,

“He will be playing his 30th game for Liverpool against Fiorentina. If from now until January we see he is no longer required by the club then we will evaluate other scenarios.”

“Roma? We are delighted Dossena is valued by a coach like Claudio Ranieri. We are not worried about the money, what’s important is that he is physically well.”

Simon Kjaer Not Thinking About Transfer Rumors

According to Simone Bargellini at Sky Sports News, Palermo defender Simon Kjaer is not concerned about the rumors linking him with Manchester United and Manchester City.  Kjaer said,

“I don’t lose concentration because of the transfer market, for me these are just rumours I read in the newspapers … I’m fine here at Palermo and I don’t think about going away.”

“I hope to get to Europe with Palermo, then I’ll think about the World Cup in South Africa … For me, it will be an incredible experience and after that I will have another three-year contract with Palermo. I don’t think about a transfer.”

Martinez To Use World Cup To Find The Next Valencia

According to Paul Kendrick at the Wigan Observer, Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is excited to be working for ESPN during the World Cup so that he has a chance to find the next Antonio Valencia. Martinez said,

“I love football and I never like to have any days off, so I will now be spending my off-season watching a lot of football during the World Cup … I’m looking forward to working for ESPN but, more than anything, I’m looking forward to watching players on behalf of Wigan Athletic. ”

“Any kind of excuse to watch football is a good one for me – and I would encourage anyone to do the same … You can never watch enough football and you can never be involved in too many games … Whether you watch it on the screen or live at the stadium, ours is a unique sport to enjoy.”

“Football is my life and my passion, and I want to be involved as much as I can.”

Manchester United To Take Larsen On Trial Once Again

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are prepared to take Aalesund midfielder Peter Orry Larsen on trial once again. Larsen trained with United two years ago but dealt with injuries during that time.

According to MirrorFootball, Birmingham boss Alex McLeish would like to permanently sign Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, who is currently at Birmingham on a season-long loan. McLeish said,

“Maybe we could come to some arrangement with Man City, if he continues to play to the level he’s playing at.”

“I think England like him and he has got every opportunity.  He’s got a great chance … He’s a massive presence, works really hard and he has tidied up his game on a couple of things.  He looks a real prospect for England.”

According to the Birmingham Mail, Birmingham have taken MFK Kosice striker Jan Novak on trial. McLeish has been looking at the £2million Slovakian striker for some time.


Yebda Does Not Want To Leave Portsmouth

According to Sky Sports News, Portsmouth midfielder Hassan Yebda is very happy at the club and does not want to leave. He told the Daily Express,

“The first thing is to keep Portsmouth in the Premier League … We are in a bad situation but we have good players and I think we will stay up.”

“I am very happy at the club and I would like to stay in English football, hopefully here.”

Middlesbrough Not Going To Permanently Sign Folan

Folan will return to Hull City in January but things will be quite awkward. Before Folan left Hull to go out on loan he called boss Phil Brown “stupid,” “laughable” and “childish.”

Elm’s Agent Claims Fulham Are Not Selling Client

According to Sky Sports News, Fulham are not planning to sell striker David Elm. Elm’s agent, Patrick Mork, told the site,

“As far as we know reports that David could be sold are not accurate … Roy Hodgson actually told him that Fulham had received offers for loan and to sell David and that they had turned them down.”

“Roy sees him as back-up to the strikers at Fulham … I believe David will stay and we have had no indication from David or Fulham that he could be sold.”
