Wigan Athletic Eyeing Waldo Ponce
According to Patricio Figueroa & Graeme Bailey at Sky Sports News, Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has been scouting Velez Sarsfield defender Waldo Ponce. Ponce’s current deal with the club ends at the end of the season.
Ponce admitted that it might be time for him to move onto a new club. He said,
“Maybe this is the moment to leave Velez … The officials have approached me about having a conversation over renewing my contract but there are too many things to be resolved, financial, family and sporting details.”
“I am going through the best moment of my career. I had a very good year. I won a title with Velez, got qualification for the World Cup with Chile … Now what is left in my career is to play in Europe, I am now 27-years-old so I think that this is the right moment for moving.”
