Burnley To Sign West Bromwich Target Lee Grant

UPDATE: According to Gary York at the Lancashire Telegraph, Burnley have agreed to a deal for goalkeeper Lee Grant. The deal is thought to be around £1million with £500,000 in add-ons.

July 22nd, 2010 According to the Express and Star, West Bromwich are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant. It is also reported that Burnley is interested in Grant as well and made a £1million bid.

Burnley Interested In Newcastle Goalkeeper Forster- Update

UPDATE: According to Stuart Rayner at The Journal, the loan deal for Fraser Forster has been put on hold due to an injury to goalkeeper Steve Harper. Burnley manager Brian Laws said,

“It’s no secret that we are looking to bring in another goalkeeper and I think most people are aware Fraser Forster was our target … However, unfortunately due to an injury at Newcastle, it’s not possible to move that on at the moment.

“We understand Newcastle’s predicament and they can’t let Fraser leave until they have assessed that situation … We are waiting to see how that develops but clearly we may have to look at alter-natives to strengthen our goalkeeping area with the new season less than three weeks away.”

July 19th, 2010: According to Chris Flanagan at the Lancashire Telegraph, Newcastle will be willing to loan out Fraser Forster to Burnley if he is made their number one goalkeeper.

July 16th, 2010: According to Chris Flanagan at the Lancashire Telegraph, Burnley are still interested in Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster but will have to wait next week to possibly sign a deal. Burnley manager Brian Laws said,

“Everything has been agreed, but there is a hiccup at his parent club that needs to be resolved and we hope that can happen soon.”

June 22nd, 2010 According to Suzanne Geldard at the Lancashire Telegraph, Burnley are interested in signing Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster on a season-long loan.

Burnley had asked about signing Wolverhampton goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey on loan for the season but manager Mick McCarthy was only willing to loan him out for three months.

According to Alan Nixon at MirrorFootball, Burnley boss Owen Coyle has decided to quit the club and take the coaching position at Bolton.

It is reported that Bolton are “prepared to pick up the tab for his compensation, which is around £1 million.”

Portsmouth Updates: James, Ashdown, Nugent

According to Neil Allen at The News, Portsmouth director Peter Storrie has admitted that the club has not received any offer for goalkeeper David James. He said,

“If someone makes an offer for a player they will consider it – and there have been some enquiries. But not a single one has come for David James … There has been no interest whatsoever and I am not sure where all this talk of interest is all coming from … As far as we’re concerned, he will remain here.”

Storrie also admitted that goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown has drawn interest from QPR although the club has not made a decision on Ashdown yet. Storrie said,

“I admit there is interest in Jamie Ashdown and Paul Hart would like him, but we have not made a decision at this stage … We have already got a lot of players away without losing any more. We will know in the next few days about that one.”

Storrie lastly went on to mention that the club would prefer to sell striker David Nugent, who has been on loan at Burnley, instead of loaning him out again. Storrie said,

“As for David Nugent, Burnley want to extend his loan – but do not want to buy him at this stage. If another club wants to come in and buy him then we would be interested. There maybe one or two showing interest already … We will be looking to sell David. Who knows, another manager might come in at Burnley and want to buy him straight away.”

According to Chris Burton at Sky Sports News, Burnley boss Owen Coyle is happy at the club and is going to stay. He said,

“I had a lot of fantastic times at Bolton and loved every minute … But I love being at this football club and I have shown that … I feel very privileged to be manager of a wonderful football club here.”

“I’ve always said I enjoy being at the football club, I enjoy my work and coming through the door every morning … I think the players enjoy working for me, the fans like coming and we are trying to build something at the football club.”

According to Sky Sports News, Bolton interim coach Chris Evans ruled out the possibility of permanently coaching the team. Evans said,

“I will not be applying for this job. I have no intention of being the manager of Bolton Wanderers … But equally I would like to feel I am professional enough to do the best possible job I can during the time given to me.”

According to ESPN Soccernet, Stoke City will not stand in the way of assistant manager Peter Reid if he is asked to take the Bolton coaching position. Stoke manager Tony Pulis said,

“As for Peter he is an ex-Bolton player, and if he was interested and they were interested, then fine. But I only want them to sit down with us and tell us like men … If Peter said he wanted to go to Bolton, I wouldn’t stand in his way. He has worked well here, but if he said wanted to go then that would be okay.”

According to The Bolton News, reports in Italy are indicating that Walter Zenga was approached by Bolton about the open coaching position.
