According to ESPN Soccernet, Chelsea made a £4.5million bid for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic that was rejected. Stoke chairman Peter Coates said,
”I felt huge disappointment. He’s an exceptional young goalkeeper, one of the best in the country … Clubs like Chelsea make enquiries about them and their heads can get turned very easily. It’s just bad advice they get given, they shouldn’t listen to it but obviously they do.”
When asked if Chelsea will sign the 23-year-old, Coates said,
”I know nothing about it. I would say the answer is no. We’re in a difficult position here. We just can’t go out and find a goalkeeper, they’re very hard to find.”
”You may have heard a rumour and it may be pretty good information, but the fact is we’ve rejected any offer they’ve made. They made an enquiry and they did make an offer and it was rejected.”

August 10th, 2010: According to Bill Howell at the Birmingham Mail, Wolverhampton want to sign only sign Michael Mancienne on loan. Manager Mick McCarthy said,

‘‘They want to sell him rather than loan him … I’ve got no understanding but I would be interested if they want to loan him out, of course I would, but that’s up to them.”
June 29th, 2010: According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolverhampton want to sign Mancienne but will not wait around forever. Manager Mick McCarthy said,
“We’re still looking and there might be something … I’ve been asked by the press about Michael Mancienne. We’ve gone out and done some business now with signing a centre-half.
“I can’t hang around waiting for decisions to be made which might be negative and then I lose the players I’ve been looking at … So I don’t know what will happen with that one.”
June 24th, 2010: According to the Express and Star, Wolverhampton owner Steve Morgan would love to sign Chelsea defender/midfielder Michael Mancienne if he becomes available. Morgan said,
“We think the world of Michael at this club – he’s a good player, he knows the set-up and he’s a popular lad with the squad.
“But it’s an issue for Chelsea – if they say he’s available then we would have an interest. Until they clarify what their plans for Michael are, it’s very difficult to comment … We’re on the sidelines, quite frankly.”
Mancienne has joined Wolverhampton twice on loan in the past few years.

UPDATE: According to Sky Sports News, Rafael Van der Vaart admitted that he was misquoted and that he wants to stay at Real Madrid. He told De Telegraaf,

“They are both giants, and if they could offer first-team football it may prove impossible to turn down … Real Madrid is the most prestigious club in the world and I am happy here and also in Spain, but I am at the age where I have to be playing first-team football … I am getting to the point where I will be hitting my peak years and I need to spend those years at a club where I will be playing regularly.
