Liverpool Reject Another Birmingham Bid For Babel

UPDATE: According to Sky Sports News, Birmingham have made another bid for Ryan Babel that was once again rejected by Liverpool.

January 19th, 2010 According to John Cross at MirrorFootball, Birmingham are preparing to make a third bid for Liverpool footballer Ryan Babel after having  £9million and £10million bids rejected.

It has also been reported elsewhere that Galatasaray is considering a move for Ryan Babel.

Liverpool Close To Signing Reina To New Deal

According to Ian Doyle at the Daily Post, Liverpool are close to signing goalkeeper Pepe Reina to a new deal. Manager Rafa Benitez said,

“We have been talking with the agents of some players and we are closer … Pepe is one of these players but we have to have another meeting before we can finalise everything. I think it will be easy to finalise and have an agreement.”

Reina’s current deal with the club expires after the 2011/2012 season.

UPDATE: According to ESPN Soccernet, Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez confirmed that the club have held talks with Sunderland. Benitez said,

“I was not dealing with this … (Managing director) Christian Purslow has been talking with (Sunderland chairman) Niall Quinn so they have to manage the situation because I was not doing anything.

“I prefer not to talk too much because we will create a debate so Christian and Niall will continue to talk if they need to talk. They were in contact but I don’t know what the situation is now.”

According to Liverpool’s official website, Liverpool are considering loaning out midfielder Damien Plessis as he is drawing interest from other clubs. Manager Rafa Benitez said,

“Plessis is a young player who isn’t playing games. We were considering a loan but we’re talking to the player and his agent. We had an Italian team asking about him and we’ll see if we can find a solution that is best for him and for us.”

“We are working with him, he is training with the team normally and we don’t have any news,” said the gaffer. “Maybe we’ll have more news before the end of the transfer window.”
