“Arsenal and Manchester United are two of the very best clubs in the world … If both of them are going to be looking for keepers this summer – or even the next summer – then of course I am interested

“I have spoken with Arshavin about Arsenal and London life … He has only had good things to say about the club and the city … He said some very nice things about me going on to be the best goalkeeper in the world – and that he would like me to reach that goal at Arsenal with him.

“They are a great club with a great manager. Of course there is every chance this will be the last season for Edwin Van der Sar … To be the No.1 for Manchester United would be a great honour too … They are the biggest football club in the world and, to be their No.1 for a length of time, you know you will have success.

Juventus have also expressed an interest in me – but Arshavin has sold England to me very well … My contract doesn’t expire until 2013 but I have a great relationship with my president … If the right offer, both for me and the club came in, I don’t think anybody would stand in my way … I have been in Russia for a lot of years now and feel ready for a new challenge.”

Yaya Toure Turned Down Move To Man United Last Year

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

According to David McDonnell at MirrorFootball, Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure admitted that he turned down a move to Manchester United last year while he was at Barcelona. Toure said,

“Last year Manchester United were interested in signing me … When I was talking about renewing my contract, United asked if I wanted to sign for them. In football, you don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow.

“United are a big club, one of the biggest in the world. But I chose City because they have not won anything for a long time. It’s very important when you come into a club if they start doing well. It’s a very nice feeling to come in and see everything changing.

“For me that’s very important. It’s an interesting challenge for me because I hope everything goes well. Manchester City have not won anything and are not doing great in the league and hopefully we can go step-by-step. If we can get into the Champions League next season it would be very, very nice for me.”

“I saw a lot of things written about why I left but, for me, I wanted to play with my brother … That was very important for me. Now I’ve signed for City I’m very happy. Now my brother and I want to make great things happen at this club and I’m sure we’ll do it.”

Danny Welbeck Willing To Go Out On Loan- Update

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

UPDATE: According to the Manchester Evening News, Danny Welbeck stated that he would not mind going out on loan. Welbeck said,

“My main aim is to be part of the first team set-up but I am happy to go on loan if the manager wants me to. I just want to keep playing games and improving … I feel I have improved a lot over the last couple of years in particular. I have learned so much during that time particularly the importance of mental strength on and off the pitch. I just want to keep improving and striving to show everyone what I can do.”

July 17th, 2010: According to Luke Edwards at the Evening Chronicle, Sunderland will have to wait at least a week to try and sign Danny Welbeck as he is on Manchester United’s roster for the tour in the United States. Sunderland assistant boss Eric Black said,

“It’s still ongoing. The manager’s said he’s someone we’d like to have in the squad, but United are in the States for a while so I don’t think anything will happen for the next week or so … You’re trying to supplement your squad and trying to put pressure on the players here to perform. You need that competitive edge.

“He’s unproven, but he has played several games for Manchester United and we believe he’s got a lot of potential … He’s a big lad, and quick … He falls into that category at United like we have with Jack Colback and Martyn Waghorn (right) here. It’s a similar process. We’d hope to bring him here, make him a better player and contribute to a good season for ourselves … If it happens, I’m sure he’ll bring something to the party.”

July 15th, 2010 According to James Hunter at the Evening Chronicle, Sunderland are in the advanced stages of signing Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on loan. Sunderland hope to sign the 19-year-old on loan for the season.
