Stoke City Close To Signing Wilson, West Ham Joins The Race

Friday, August 27th, 2010

UPDATE: According to ESPN Soccernet, West Ham United have joined the race for Marc Wilson, but Stoke City are close to signing him. A West Ham insider said,

“It seems that a deal is 98% done with Stoke, but we are trying to get him.”

August 26th 2010: According to Christopher Lepkowski at the Birmingham Mail, Stoke City have made a bid of £3.5 million + Dave Kitson for Portsmouth footballer Marc Wilson.

Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill also stated that Marc Wilson could leave the club this summer. Cotterill said,

“I really don’t want him to go anywhere but if I get to the situation where the club needs money then I might have that meeting with the administrator … What’s the chances of Marc being around for the weekend? It depends on what I get.

“There are a couple of clubs who are interested. It’s difficult but what do you do if someone comes in and gives you money and/or players? What do you do? … Marc Wilson is a quality player, but maybe this football club is not in a position to say no.”

August 23rd 2010: According to the Express and Star, West Bromwich made a second bid for Marc Wilson that was also rejected. Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou said,

“West Brom offered us £3m plus add-ons but that has been turned down … Steve Cotterill does not want to sell such an important player … At the moment, as a club he is not a player we have identified to sell … We will have to wait and see what happens.”

August 13th 2010 According to Christopher Lepkowski at the Birmingham Mail, West Bromwich made a £2.5million bid for Portsmouth midfielder/defender Marc Wilson that was rejected. Portsmouth are looking for around £5million.

It is also reported that West Brom are still looking to sign Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Somen Tchoyi. However Tchoyi has yet to travel to England for talks.

Lastly, West Bromwich are looking to sign a striker on loan.

Official: Ben Haim Joins West Ham On Loan, 1 More To Come

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

UPDATE: According to West Ham’s official website, West Ham United have signed Portsmouth defender Tal Ben Haim on loan until January.

It is also reported that the club hopes to complete another signing within the next 72 hours.

July 17th, 2010: According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United have agreed to a deal to sign Portsmouth defender Tal Ben Haim. It is reported that West Ham originally offered Ben Haim £30,000-a-week in wages, which was £8,000-a-week short of his current contract. However a deal was agreed upon when they increased their offer.

June 24th, 2010 According to ESPN Soccernet, West Ham United boss Avram Grant would like to sign Portsmouth defender Tal Ben Haim but his wages are too high. Ben Haim has two-years left on his current deal but can leave for free this summer due to a clause in his contract. A source at West Ham said,

“Yes, we would love to sign the player, but not at the moment as his wages are £45,000-a-week and his agent wants a £1 million fee - both too high.

“The problem is he has two years left on his Portsmouth contract, though he can leave for nothing as they were relegated.

“Why should he leave unless he gets the same wage? But a club like West Ham can no longer afford to pay every player £40-45,000-a-week. “Clubs like West Ham have to draw the line somewhere or every club will go broke.”

UPDATE: According to Luke Edwards at The Journal, Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is confident the club will sign Williamson. He said,

“In all honesty I’ve kept out of the politics of why it didn’t happen last week … I’m under the impression they’re working very hard on it and we’re confident it’s going to happen. I just want the player here. I hope we’re close to resolving it. We were disappointed it didn’t go through a couple of days ago and we’re hopeful something will happen very soon.”

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

UPDATE: According to ESPN Soccernet, the embargo has been lifted. Peter Storrie said,

“We are absolutely delighted that th embargo has been lifted, as we have been working very hard for the past few days with the Premier League to achieve this.
