However a deal was agreed upon when they increased their offer.

June 24th, 2010 According to ESPN Soccernet, West Ham United boss Avram Grant would like to sign Portsmouth defender Tal Ben Haim but his wages are too high. Ben Haim has two-years left on his current deal but can leave for free this summer due to a clause in his contract. A source at West Ham said,

“Yes, we would love to sign the player, but not at the moment as his wages are £45,000-a-week and his agent wants a £1 million fee - both too high.

“Why should he leave unless he gets the same wage? But a club like West Ham can no longer afford to pay every player £40-45,000-a-week. “Clubs like West Ham have to draw the line somewhere or every club will go broke.”

“Scott Parker is not for sale, but what happens if someone offers £200m? It’s a laughable scenario, but who would have thought after all those ‘over my dead bodies’ that Ronaldo would leave Manchester United?

“I believe Scott Parker is our talisman, I have got a picture of him in my office doing something similar to what John Terry did at the World Cup - diving at someone’s feet to head the ball away … Scott is Mr West Ham – we will see where that takes us.”
